Reading books can be boring! Yea right, this is a statement that can be made by those who do not have an interest in reading. But they are not to be blamed though, it is most likely they were not brought up to enjoy reading. Usually, it is rare for a child to pick an interest in reading books, they would rather play games and run around with friends. The truth is, no one is brought up to enjoy reading, the habit is cultivated. This is the reason why parents should encourage them on that right from their childhood.
I remember a quote in one of the books I read that said “To successfully hide something from the youths takes nothing than putting it in a book” and I could not help but agree with it. Youths do not enjoy reading books and part of the reasons might be a fault from their childhood. Therefore, this is your chance to change that, as they say, community starts with family and starting a change from your family might just mean changing the world. Here is how to change the world;
Read to them every day: We are trying to encourage book reading in our children but before we can achieve that, we have to have the habit of reading ourselves. And in this instance, I don’t just mean reading; I mean reading to them. Though loving to read as a parent might not just be enough because of the day’s work and the stress the kids themselves will put one through before their bedtime but having this as a priority will be efficient enough to make it work. You might be thinking reading to them will be for the fun of it but have you considered the upside? Permit me to hint you with one in this article
It improves vocabulary: The children might not be able to read yet due to their young age but reading to them helps them get familiar with the words, especially its pronunciation. Learning new words do not come easy, especially when one is not an avid reader. But this can be avoided for our children at a very young age when we read to them because when they hear unfamiliar words, they get to question you for the meaning and mostly, it sticks to them.
