The great questions that we should ask ourselves are; why children pass or fail in their academics? And what are the factors or reasons that do account for this?

The apparent fact is that the level of parent’s education has effects on children’s life either positively or negatively.  Communication begins at home because the children first learn how to talk and pass information with their parents,therefore, when the parents are not learned it may affect the children’s ability to; communicate properly, knowledge acquired may be limited to what the teachers teach, to mention a few.

However, the positive effects that literate parents have on the life of children are numerous but let us streamline it to the few listed below;

The setting of meaningful, purposeful and useful future carrier for their children with the help of their knowledge and define all the ways to bring them into actualization or reality.

Teaching their children how to read at the early stage of their lives. Sometimes most people always argue that early teaching always has a bad effect on children. But this is not true, as early teaching can only sharpen their mental ability and develop them to always get whatever they are teaching in school quickly because they have heard about it before from their parent.

Sharing real-life experience with their children, during the course of the knowledge acquired by parent, they would have come across a lot of ideas, occurrences, and a well practical life’s scenario. And they will not hesitate to share all these experiences with their children to guide and prepare them for such a situation if it should occur in future

The teaching of skills to children. Parents do not need to be highly educated to teach their children some basic skills, such basic skills are; how to use a spoon to eat, how to bath, how to brush teeth, how to greet elderly ones in the house and community at large.

Moreover, illiterate parent also have one or two ways in which they can have positive effect on their children upbringing and they are the followings;

Illiterate parent must be very sensitive on the daily activities that their children carry out, that is, whenever they sense any strange thing in the children’s affairs they should always be responsive to it, if they cannot help with the situation themselves, they should seek for assistance.

Illiterate parent must also dedicate enormous time to their children’s life, by checking on them frequently in school and providing them all their basic needs
