Low self-esteem affects a whole lot of people than you think and it affects an individual overall. When a person has low self esteem the person begins to talk negative of himself, does not speak up, feels more bad than good of himself and lacks self-respect.
There are lots of signs of low self-esteem. These include complaining, gossiping about others, putting others first, even spending an excessive amount of time on social media.
Some of the characteristics of low self-esteem include:
Heavy criticism of one’s self or others. When an individual criticises himself overly, they are reinforcing negative self-talk. Your brain hears this and starts to believe it. When you criticize others, it shows that you are mirroring how you feel about yourself. Whatever information the brain takes in and processes affect the human body.
There is also a need for perfectionism. Individuals with inferiority complex always have a problem of perfectionism. They want things to be perfect because they believe it can cover up for what they think they do not have. No one is perfect. This is a fact. trying to do everything perfectly will only make you fall. It is bound to happen and hence frustration and negative self-talk occur.
They seek to please others. Even at their own expense. It is also a problem when you consistently put other people before yourself. Always put yourself first before anyone else. Put your mental health before seeking to please any person, whosoever.
Pessimism is one of the killers of self-esteem. Negative energy never produces confidence in a person. It is what you speak to your brain that is communicated to the rest of the body. This is not only harmful to one’s mental health, it’s also toxic to the physical body.
These are some of the characteristics of low self-esteem. The key is to identify which one of these you possess as a parent or your child possess. This is quite important because children watch what their parents do and how they react to issues. It’s only natural that they learn to act that way. Remember, self-confidence and low self-esteem both start with the mind.
